The organization was formed on 6th June, 1996 in a General Meeting held at the Rangamancha in Bamparbatia (Tezpur). The Meeting was organized by prominent social workers of the area, where about seventy five persons were present. After discussing various problems of the local area as well as various social problems of the area the persons present in the Meeting formed an organization under the name of Eight Brothers’ Film Social Welfare Society, which was later on renamed as Eight Brothers’ Social Welfare Society. The registered office of the organization is situated at Bam Parbatia, Bhupen Deka Path in Tezpur, Sonitpur. The organization, earlier,
organized for working in the field of social welfare and to enhance self-employment activities and also to create public awareness about some issues like drugs addiction, AIDS etc. through producing documentary and film etc. The organization, later, decided to work in the field of social welfare, Self Employment, Health and Family Welfare and road safety activities. The organization was registered under Society Registration Act 1869 on 15.3.99 with its head office at Tezpur and administrative office at Guwahati and Branch office at Gohpur. At the time of formation of the organization, there were 120 members. The present numbers of members are near about 1500, including both life and general members.
